Meat Sauce for Spaghetti Squash

2 Tbsp. olive oil
1 onion, chopped
5 clove garlic, minced
1 - 1 1/2 pounds ground turkey or beef
2 28-oz cans crushed tomatoes
1 can (6 oz.) tomato paste
7 cups water
3 Tbsp Italian seasoning
2 tsp dried basil or 1 Tbsp fresh basil minced
pinch crushed red pepper

  1. In a large stockpot or Dutch oven heat oil over medium heat. Sautee onion and garlic till softened.
  2. Add ground meat and stir frquently til browned, being sure to break up any clumps.
  3. Stir in remaining ingredients; bring to a boil, then reduce heat, cover partially and simmer for 1 hour.
